Cambridge 19/07/2011
I just returned from attending two conferences in England: the International Society for Biblical Literature Meeting (ISBL) in London; and the Tyndale Biblical Theology Study Group in Cambridge. I presented two separate papers with a similar theme: postcolonial readings of the Bible. The ISBL paper was a reading of the book of Ruth from a postcolonial perspective, and the Tyndale paper was a critique of the postcolonial hermeneutic, with suggestions for evangelical appropriation. I found it stimulating to listen to the papers at both conferences: it helped me keep abreast of what's going on in the scholarly world, and also helped me sharpen my thinking about different theological issues. My thanks to the Tyndale Committee for the bursary which helped defray my conference costs. Tyndale House in Summer: such a pleasant time to visit. Add Comment |
