Here's a recent picture of the STM community: faculty, staff and students.

Last Thursday we took a day off from lecturing and chapel and food to pray and fast. It was good to take a step back from the normal routine to focus on God and bring our requests to Him.

Six different lecture rooms were redecorated and each had a different topic for prayer. Topics included praying for: different aspects of the church here and our personal lives; the oppressed church around the world; Malaysia in general; other countries.

There was also time for communal prayer, and we finished with Holy Communion.

A reflection: they're more into symbols and rituals here at STM than what I'm used to. For instance, Communion is taken twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday).

This weekend, coming to a lecture room near you (at least if you live in KL or PJ):

I thought it would be a relaxing faculty retreat, but I was so mistaken! It was really one looooong faculty meeting, punctuated by meals and sleep. We only had "free time" on the way up (tea and scones at "The Lord's Cafe"; how appropriate) and when we went out for teh tarik on the last evening. But it was productive, and I got to know the other lecturers a lot better, especially through the way they interacted, probed and discussed various issues. Oh, and the mountain vista was a wonderful reminder of God's creative power.
